4-ամյա Լենոքս Ալենը երկու տարվա ընթացքում կարողացել է հաղթահարել գլխուղեղի քաղցկեցի հազվագյուտ տեսակը: Տղայի մոտ ախտորոշվել էր ատիպիկ տերատոիդային ռաբդոիդային ուռուցք (ATRT), որը կազմում է երեխաների մոտ կենտրոնական նյարդային համակարգի բոլոր չարորակ ուռուցքների 1-2 տոկոսը:

Ինչպես հաղորդում է The Daily Mail-ը, երկու տարեկանում Լենոքսի մոտ ամեն առավոտյան առաջանում էին սրտխառնոցի եւ փսխումի նոպաներ: Ավելի ուշ նրա մոտ առաջացել էր թուլություն եւ խնդիրներ կոորդինացիայի հետ կապված: Համակարգչային տոմոգրաֆիան հայտնաբերել էր տղայի գլխուղեղում նորագոյացություն, որը, ինչպես պարզ էր դարձել ավելի ուշ, չարորակ էր:

ATRT-ի ախտորոշումը ծնողների համար սարսափելի էր: Իրավիճակը բարդացնում էր այն, որ ընտանիքի համար այդ բարդ փուլում տղայի մայրը հղի էր երրորդ երեխայով: ATRT-ի զարգացումը SMARCB1 գենում մուտացիայի հետեւանք է, ընդ որում՝ հիվանդությունը զարգանում է շատ արագ, եւ կա կրկնության մեծ հավանականություն բուժումն ավարտելուց 2-3 տարի անց:

Այսօրվա դրությամբ Լենոքսի մոտ նկատվում է հիվանդության հետընթաց, եւ նա վարում է ակտիվ կենսակերպ. հաճախում է լողավազան, խաղում է ընկերների հետ: Տղայի ծնողները հույս ունեն, որ նրանց պատմությունը կօգնի բարձրացնել երեխաների շրջանում քաղցկեղի մասին իրազեկումը՝ այդկերպ մեծացնելով համապատասխան հետազոտությունների ֆինանսավորումը:
