Այդ խոսակցությունից հետո Աննա հավաքեց բոլոր անհրաժեշտ իրերը, գրկեց երեխային և գնաց դատարան՝ ամուսնալուծության դիմում ներկայացնելու: Լևոնը՝ նրա ամուսինը, իր մոր միակ երեխան է եղել:

Կինը մանկուց նրան հեռու է պահել «վատ» կանանցից, այդպես էլ նա մեծացել է՝ մոր համար մնալով  փոքր երեխա: Լևոնը բավականին ինքնասիրահարված և անտարբեր մարդ է, պարզապես նրա մայրը հարմար տարբերակ էր գտել որդու համար՝ Աննային, ով համեստ, դաստիրակված և խելացի աղջիկ էր: Այդպես էլ սկեսուրի միջնորդությամբ Աննան ամուսնացել էր Լևոնի հետ:

Սկզբում կինը շատ լավ էր շփվում հարսի հետ, որպիսի արժանանա վերջինիս լավ վերաբերմունքին: Սակայն ժամանակի ընթացքում նա ցույց տվեց իր իրական դեմքը: Սկեսուրը սկանդալ էր սարքում, հիմնականում առանց պատճառ:Նույնիսկ սենյակի կահույքն ընտրելու ժամանակ Լևոնը զանգել էր մորը և բողոքել, որ Աննան չի ուզում  իր հավանած տարբերակը: Սկեսուրը զանգել էր հարսին և բարկացել նրա վրա՝ ասելով, որ իր որդու կարծիքը միշտ ճիշտ է և պետք է լսել նրան:

Չնայած նրան, որ երիտասարդներն առանձին էին ապրում, սկեսուրը գրեթե ամեն օր գալիս էր նրանց տուն և սկսում Աննային խրատներ տալ: Ամեն ինչ բարդացավ, երբ ծնվեց ընտանիքի առաջնեկը: Աննան ոչինչ չէր հասցնում անել, իսկ սկեսուրը նրա վրա բարկանում էր, երբ տեսնում էր, որ տանն անթերի մաքրություն չէ:

Աննայի համբերությունը սպառվեց այն ժամանակ, երբ մի օր ամուսինը եկավ տուն և դռան մոտ հանեց կոշիկները: Երբ նրա մայրը տեսավ, որ իր որդու կոշիկները կեղտոտ են, սկսեց գոռալ և զայրանալ Աննայի վրա: Իսկ Լևոնը՝ մորը բացատրելու փոխարեն, որ նա սխալ է, ասաց.

-Մայրիկ, հանգստացիր, քեզ չի կարելի, սիրտդ հիվանդ է: Ոչինչ, նա դեռ կսովորի…հանգիստ, մայրիկ ջան…

Այդ օրը Աննան ընդմիշտ հեռացավ: Չնայած ամուսնու և  սկեսուրի կողմից՝ իրեն տուն վերադարձնելու փարձերին, Աննան այլևս ոտք չդրեց այնտեղ: Հնարավոր է, որ դա իր կյանքի ամենաճիշտ որոշումներից մեկն է:
