«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է

Իրականում լավային լամպը, չնայած իր անվանմանը, գործնականում չի կատարում լամպի գործառույթ: Դա դեկորատիվ իր է և կազմված է գլանաձև թափանցիկ անոթից, որը լցված է անգույն յուղով և պարաֆինով և ունի մասնակի թափանցիկություն: Սարքի ստորին մասում առկա է լուսավորման լամպ, որը լուսավորում է անոթը և տաքացնում այն: Ջերմության ազդեցության տակ պարաֆինի տարբեր չափերի կաթիլներն սկսում են շարժվել յուղի շերտի մեջ և դրանով իսկ ստեղծում հրաբխային «լավայի» շարժման նմանակում: Լավային լամպի գործողության սկզբունքը հիմնված է պարաֆինի ֆիզիկական հատկությունների վրա, որը տաքանալիս ավելի թեթև է դառնում, քան յուղը, և լողում է վեր, ապա սառչելով՝ իջնում ներքև:

1963 թվականին լավային լամպը հայտնագործվել է անգլիացի գիտնական Էդվարդ Քրեյվեն Ուոլքերի կողմից: 5 տարի անց նա արտոնագրել է իր գյուտը: Լավային լամպերի արտադրության համար Ուոլքերը Բրիտանիայի հարավում գտնվող Պոուլ քաղաքում ստեղծել է «Crestworth» անվանումով ձեռնարկություն: Հեղինակը իր սարքին տվել է «Աստրո» անվանումը: Այդ ժամանակ արտադրվել են լամպերի մի քանի տարբերակներ, օրինակ՝ «Astro Mini», «Astro Coach»:

1965 թվականին Բրյուսելում կայացած տոնավաճառում առաջին անգամ ցուցադրվել է լավային լամպը: Սարքը գրավել է ձեռնարկատերեր Ալֆրեդ Վերտհայմերի և Հայա Սպեկտորի ուշադրությունը, որոնք էլ Ուոլքերից ձեռք են բերել ԱՄՆ-ում լավային լամպերի արտադրության և իրացման իրավունք: Նման կերպ այդ լամպը ընկել է Նոր աշխարհ, որտեղ սկսել է վաճառվել «Lava Lite» անվան տակ: Այդ ապրանքն սկսել է արտադրվել վերը նշված գործարարների կողմից հիմ նադր վ ա ծ « L a v a S i m p l e x International» կորպորացիայի կողմից: Շուտով Վերտհայմերը դադարել է արտադրել «Lava Lite», իսկ Սպեկտորը, ընդհակառակը, սկսել է զարգացնել արտադրությունը իր՝ Չիկագոյի գործարանում:

Ամերիկացիներին դուր է եկել լավային լամպը և դարձել նրանց համար 1960-ականների խորհրդանիշներից մեկը: 1980-ականների կեսերին Հայա Սպեկտորը ընկերությունը վաճառել է «Haggerty Enterprises» ընկերությանը, որը պատկանում էր Լարի Հագգերտին և Էդդի Շելդոնին: Այս գործարքը հանգեցրել է լամպերի վրայի պատկերանշանի փոփոխության: Այժմ լամպերը սկսել են վաճառվել «Lavaworld» ապրանքանիշի ներքո, իսկ սպառողների շրջանում լայն տարածում է գտել «Lava lamp» անվանումը: Հետագայում ԱՄՆ-ում այդ լամպերի արտադրությունը փակվել և տեղափոխվել է Չինաստան:
