Եգիպտական հնագիտական առաքելությունը՝ դոկտոր Զահի Հավասի ղեկավարությամբ գտել է ավազի տակ թաղված քաղաք եւ այն անվանել «Աթոնի վսեմացում»: Քաղաքը 3 հազար տարեկան է, այն վերագրվում է մինչեւ Թութանհամոնը եւ Այը Ամենհոթեփ III-ի կառավարման տարիներին, հայտնում է See egy-ը: Օտարերկրյա շատ հնագետներ էին այս քաղաքը փնտրել, բայց այդպես էլ չէին գտել:

Մենք մեր որոնումները սկսել ենք Թութանհամոնի դամբարանից, որովհետեւ հենց այս շրջանում էին գտնվել Հորեմհեբի եւ Այի տաճարները»,- ասել է Հավասը: Այս քաղաքը հիմնադրվել է  Հին Եգիպտոսի մեծագույն տիրակալներից մեկի՝ Ամենհոթեփ III-ի կողմից, որը Եգիպտոսը կառավարել է մ.թ.ա. 1391-1353 թվականներին, եւ եղել է Հին Եգիպտոսում ամենախոշոր վարչական ու արդյունաբերական բնակավայրը:

Ջոն Հոփքինսի համալսարանի եգիպտագիտության պրոֆեսոր Բեթսի Բրայանն ասել է, որ այս կորած քաղաքի հայտնաբերումը իր նշանակությամբ երկրորդ հնագիտական հայտնագործությունն է Թութահամոնի դամբարանից հետո: «Այս քաղաքի հայտնաբերումը մեզ ոչ միայն հնարավորություն կտա ուսումնասիրելու հին եգիպտացիների կյանքը, երբ Կայսրությունը եղել է իր հարստության գագաթին, այլեւ կօգնի լույս սփռել պատմության մեծագույն հանելուկներից մեկի վրա. ինչո՞ւ են Էհնաթոնն ու Նեֆերտիտին որոշել տեղափոխվել Ամարնա»,- հավելել է Բրայանը:

Պեղումները սկսվել են 2020 թվականի սեպտեմբերին, եւ մի քանի շաբաթ հետո առաքելությունը հայտնաբերել է լավ պահպանված մեծ քաղաք: Առաքելության առաջին նպատակն էր այս բնակավայրի թվագրումը:

Գինու անոթների կավե կափարիչների վրայի հիերոգլիֆներով գրառումները վկայում են, որ բնակավայրում էին տեղակայված Ամենհոթեփ III փարավոնի 3 թագավորական պալատներ, նաեւ Կայսրության վարչական ու արդյունաբերական կենտրոնն էր: Հնագիտական մեծ թվով գտածոները, ինչպես՝ մատանիներ, սրբազան բզեզներ, գունավոր խեցե անոթներ եւ կավե աղյուսներ՝ Ամենհոթեփ III-ի կնիքով, հաստատել են քաղաքի թվագրումը: Պեղումների ընդամենը 7 ամսում հայտնաբերվել են մի քանի շրջաններ: Առաքելությունը հարավային մասում հայտնաբերել է փուռ՝ կերակուր պատրաստելու գոտի, վառարան եւ կավե սպասք: Չափերից դատելով՝ խոհանոցը սպասարկել են շատ մեծ թվով աշխատողներ եւ ծառայողներ:
