Երևանի քաղաքապետարանի որոշմամբ օրեր առաջ Հալաբյան-Մարգարյան փողոցների խաչմերուկում՝ Բուենոս Այրեսի այգում, տեղադրվել է Հնդկաստանի քաղաքական և հոգևոր առաջնորդ Մահաթմա Գանդիի արձանը։ Հայտնի չէ, թե կոնկրետ երբ է տեղադրվել արձանը, քանի որ քաղաքապետարանն արձանը տեղադրել է անաղմուկ, առանց միջոցառումների։

Մահաթմա Գանդին իր գործունեության ընթացքում առանձնապես աչքի չի ընկել հայերի նկատմամբ սիրով։ Նա ոչ միայն չի դատապարտել հայոց ցեղասպանությունը, այլ նաև աջակցել է Մուսթաֆա Քեմալ Աթաթուրքին և համարել, որ Հայաստանը պետք է վերադառնա Թուրքիայի տիրապետության տակ։

«Մահաթմա Գանդին հայոց ցեղասպանության մասին շատ լավ տեղյակ էր, բայց ինքը երբեք  չդատապարատեց թուրքական իշխանություններին։ Ավելին՝ 1919 թվականին՝ երբ Թուրքիայոմ սկիզբ առավ Միլի շարժումը՝ ազգային շարժումը Քեմալի գլխավորությամբ, Գանդին Քեմալի դաշնակիցն էր։ Եվ նա դեմ արտահայտվեց 1920 թվականին Սևրի պայմանագրի դեմ»,- NEWS.am-ի հետ զրույցում ներկայացրեց պատմաբան Անի Մելքոնյանը։

Արձանը տեղադրվել է Գանդիի 150-ամյակի կապակցությամբ։ Այն Հայաստան է ուղարկել հնդկական կողմը և հոգացել է տեղափոխման և տեղադրման բոլոր ծախսերը։ Արձանի տեղադրման առաջարկը  Արտաքին գործերի նախարարությունը Երևանի քաղաքապետարանին ներկայացրել էր դեռ նախորդ տարվա ապրիլին։ Այդ ժամանակ էլ որոշման դեմ բողոքի ալիք բարձրացավ, սակայն ավագանին հաստատեց որոշումը։

«Գանդին Հնդկաստանի հետ փաստացի արեց այն, ինչը Նիկոլ Փաշինյանն արեց Հայաստանի հետ։ Այսինքն՝ բաժանեց Հնդկաստանի տարածքները և ստեղծեց Պակիստան։ Այսօր մենք տեսնում ենք Արցախի և Սյունքի մի մասը բաժանվեց Ադրբեջանին։ Նույն գաղափարն է, և պատահական չէ, որ քայլելուց է քանդակված»,- նշեց պատմաբանը։

Ըստ Անի Մելքոնյանի՝ պատահական չէ, որ ցեղասպանությունը ժխտող գործչի արձանը տեղադրվել է ցեղասպանության տարելիցին ընդառաջ․ դա ավելի շատ թուրքական իշխանությանն ուղղված ժեստ է։

«Կարծում եմ՝ Հայաստանի իշխանությունները պարզապես կիսում են Գանդիի տեսակետները Հայոց ցեղասպանության հետ կապված։ Այսինքն՝ երևի թե նա համարում է, որ թուրքական այդ էթնիկ զտումները, ցեղասպանությունը ճիշտ էր, Հայաստանը պետք է վերադառնա Օսմանյան Թուրքիայի կազմի մեջ, ինչպես Գանդին էր մտածում»,- ավելացրեց Անի Մելքոնյանը։

NEWS.am-ի հարցմանը մասնակցած քաղաքացիները նույնպես կարծում են, որ Գանդիի արձանի տեղադրումը Հայաստանում, այն էլ այս ժամանակահատվածում, սխալ է։
