Իրանը կուտակել է ավելի քան 120 կգ 20%-ով հարստացված ուրան, ինչը գերազանցում է այն մակարդակը, որը 2015 թվականին միջնորդ վեցյակի հետ համաձայնեցվել էր Իրանի միջուկային գործարքների շրջանակում: Ինչպես նշում է The Guardian-ը, այդ մասին պետական հեռուստատեսությանը հայտնել է երկրի ատոմային էներգիայի գործակալության ղեկավարը:

«Մենք անցել ենք 120 կիլոգրամը: Մենք ունենք այդ ցուցանիշից ավելին: Մեր ժողովուրդը լավ գիտի, որ (արևմտյան ուժերը) պետք է մեզ 20 տոկոսով հարստացված վառելիք տային՝ Թեհրանի ռեակտորում օգտագործելու համար, բայց դա չեն արել: Եթե մեր գործընկերները դա չանեն, բնականաբար մենք խնդիրներ կունենանք Թեհրանի ռեակտորի վառելիքի պակասի հետ կապված»,- ասել է Իրանի ատոմային էներգիայի կազմակերպության ղեկավար Մոհամմադ Էսլամին:

Թեհրանի ռեակտորը սկզբնապես Իրանին մատակարարվել է ԱՄՆ-ից 1960-ականներին՝ բժշկության և գյուղատնտեսության մեջ օգտագործելու, ռադիոիզոտոպներ արտադրելու համար: Այնուհետև այն փոխվել է 20%-ով հարստացված ուրանի վրա աշխատելու համար, որը երկիրը սկսել է արտադրել 2012 թվականից:

Սեպտեմբերին Ատոմային էներգիայի միջազգային գործակալությունը հաղորդել է, որ Իրանը մեծացրել է ուրանի պաշարները, որոնք հարստացվել են 2015 թվականի համաշխարհային տերությունների հետ գործարքում թույլատրված տոկոսից բարձր: Գործարքի համաձայն, Իրանը չպետք է հարստացներ ուրանի 3,67%-ից բարձր մակարդակը, ինչը շատ ցածր է միջուկային զենքի օգտագործման համար անհրաժեշտ 90% շեմից:

2015-ի համաձայնագրի համաձայն՝ Չինաստանը, Ֆրանսիան, Գերմանիան, Մեծ Բրիտանիան և ԱՄՆ-ն պայմանավորվել էին հանել Իրանի դեմ որոշ պատժամիջոցներ, եթե Թեհրանը դադարեցներ իր միջուկային ծրագիրը:

Բայց քանի որ ԱՄՆ նախկին նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփը Վաշինգտոնին դուրս բերեց համաձայնագրից 2018 թվականին, Թեհրանը աստիճանաբար հրաժարվեց համաձայնագրով ստանձնած իր պարտավորություններից, և ԱՄՆ-ն ի պատասխան նոր պատժամիջոցներ սահմանեց:

Ուրբաթ Իրանի արտգործնախարար Հոսեյն Ամիր-Աբդոլլահիանն ասել է, որ լավատես է, որ 2015 թվականի գործարքի վերակենդանացման շուրջ բանակցությունները առաջընթաց կունենան, եթե Վաշինգտոնը լիովին վերսկսի իր պարտավորությունները:
