Ինչի՞ համար են բացասական թվերը․ «Փաստ»

«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է

Ինչքան էլ զարմանալի է, բայց «բացասական թվեր» հասկացությունը ծագել է ոչ թե մաթեմատիկոսների կողմից հաշվարկներ կատարելու համար, այլ առավել գործնական հաշվարկների։ Պարզվում է, որ բուն «բացասական թիվ» հասկացությունը առաջին անգամ 1202 թվականին մտցրել է իտալացի վաճառական Լեոնարդո Պիզանոն, որպեսզի նշագրի իր պարտքերը և վնասները։ Մինչև Պիզանոն Եվրոպայում հաշվարկներում բացասական թիվ ստանալիս դա համարում էին «աբսուրդային», «անհասկանալի», «սուտ», «թվացյալ» և այլն։

Սակայն Պիզանոն, որը անգամ «Աբակայի գիրք» վերնագրով գիրք էր գրել (պատկերացրեք, թե ինչքան ծանր է եղել մարդու վիճակը պարտքերի և վնասների պատճառով, որ նա անգամ դրանց մասին գիրք է գրել), բացատրում էր, որ հաշվարկներում բացասական թիվ ստանալը նշանակում է այդ չափի պարտք, և համարում էր դա լրիվ ընդունելի և անհրաժեշտ այնպիսի ցուցանիշ, որը ցույց է տալիս, թե ինչքան գումար է պակասում մարդուն զրոյական մակարդակի հասնելու համար։ Նշենք, որ բացասական թիվը բացասական թվերի բազմության տարր է, որը (զրոյի հետ միասին) մաթեմատիկայում հանդես է գալիս բնական թվերի բազմությունը ընդլայնելիս։ Ընդլայնման հիմնական նպատակը եղել է հանման ներկայացումը որպես այնպիսի լիարժեք գործողություն, ինչպես գումարումը։

Բոլոր բացասական թվերը զրոյից փոքր են։ Բացասական թվերը տեղադրված են զրոյից ձախ։ Հին Եգիպտոսում, Բաբելոնում, Հին Հունաստանում մաթեմատիկայում բացասական թվեր չեն օգտագործվել, իսկ եթե հավասարման արմատները ստացվել են բացասական, դրանք դիտվել են որպես անհնար։ Բացառություն էր Դիոֆանտեսը, որը 3-րդ դարում արդեն գիտեր նշանների կանոնը և կարողանում էր բազմապատկել բացասական թվերը։ Սակայն նա դրանք դիտարկում էր որպես միջանկյալ օղակ՝ վերջնական դրական արդյունքի հաշվարկման համար։ Առաջին անգամ բացասական թվերը սահմանվել են Չինաստանում, ապա՝ մոտավորապես 7-րդ դարում, նաև Հնդկաստանում, որտեղ դրանք դիտարկվել են որպես պարտք (անբավարարություն), կամ, ինչպես Դիաֆանտեսի մոտ, ճանաչվել են որպես ժամանակավոր արժեքներ։ Այն ժամանակ բացասական թվերի համար բազմապատկումն ու բաժանումը դեռ սահմանված չէին։

Բացասական թվերի օգտակարությունը հաստատվել է աստիճանաբար։ Հնդիկ մաթեմատիկ Բրահմագուպրան (7-րդ դար) դրանք հավասարաչափ դիտարկել է դրականների հետ։ Ջոն Վալլիսը համարում է, որ բացասական թվերը զրոյից փոքր են, բայց, միևնույն ժամանակ, մեծ են անվերջությունից։ Բոմբելին և Ժիրարը իրենց աշխատություններում բացասական թվերը համարել են լրիվ թույլատրելի և օգտակար, մանավանդ եթե նրանք նշանակում են ինչ-որ բանի անբավարարություն։ Սակայն, այնուամենայնիվ, անգամ այնպիսի հանրահայտ մաթեմատիկոս, ինչպիսին Պասկալն է, նույնիսկ 17-րդ դարում համարում էր, որ «ոչինչ չի կարող զրոյից փոքր լինել»։ Այն ժամանակների արձագանքն այն էր, որ ժամանակակից մաթեմատիկայում բաժանումը և բացասական թիվը նշվում են նույն նշանով՝ գծիկով կամ մինուսով։

Բացասական թվերի տեսության ընդունման գործընթացը երկար ճանապարհ է անցել։ Ընդ որում, ակտիվորեն քննարկվում էր այն հարցը, թե ինչպես կարող է ստացվել, որ թվերի շարքում ձախից առաջինը ավելի մեծ է, քան երկրորդը, իսկ զրոյից հետո այդ ամենը փոխվում է և հակառակն է (սա «Առնոյի» պարադոքսն է)։ Ժամանակին անհասկանալի էր նաև այն, թե ինչ իմաստ ունի բազմապատկել բացասական թվերը, և ինչու պետք է այդ բազմապատկումը դրական լինի։ Վերջնական բացասական թվերի օգտագործման տեսությունը ստեղծվել է միայն 19-րդ դարում Ուիլ յամ Գամիլտոնի և Գերման Գերասիմովի ջանքերի շնորհիվ։
