Մարտի 4-ի գիշերը, ինչպես պնդում են ուկրաինական իշխանությունները, ռուսական զորքերը գնդակոծել են Զապորոժիեի ԱԷԿ-ը: Գրոհների հետևանքով հրդեհ է բռնկվել էներգաբլոկներից մեկի և ուսումնավարժական մասնաշենքում։ Ուկրաինայի արտակարգ ծառայությունները հայտնել են միասնական էներգահամակարգից երրորդ էներգաբլոկի անջատման մասին:

ԱԷԿ-ի գնդակոծման կապակցությամբ Ուկրաինայի նախագահ Վլադիմիր Զելենսկին տեսաուղերձ է գրել.

«Ռուսական տանկերը կրակում են ատոմային բլոկներին։ Այդ տանկերում կան ջերմային կայաններ։ Նրանք գիտեն, թե ուր են կրակում։ Նրանք պատրաստվում էին դրան։ Ես դիմում եմ բոլոր ուկրաինացիներին, եվրոպացիներին և բոլոր նրանց, ովքեր գիտեն «Չեռնոբիլ»բառը։ Այդ պայթյունը դարձավ համաշխարհային աղետ։ Հարյուր հազարավոր մարդիկ պայքարեցին։ Ռուսաստանը ցանկանում է դա կրկնել։ Մեր պատմության մեջ առաջին անգամ երկիրը զբաղված է միջուկային ահաբեկչությամբ, ռուս քարոզիչներն ասում էին, որ աշխարհը վերածելու են ռադիոակտիվ մոխրի. «Հիմա դա սպառնալիք չէ, հիմա իրականություն է»։
