Մահացել է լողազգեստի ավստրալացի գյուտարար Փոլա Սթաֆորդը։ Նա մահացել է 102 տարեկանում՝ գրեթե 80 տարի անց, երբ նրա խորհրդանշական լողազգեստը պատմության մեջ մտավ Քվինսլենդի լողափերից մեկում:

Ինչպես մինի կիսաշրջազգեստների դեպքում, բիկինիի գաղափարը գրեթե միաժամանակ ծագեց տարբեր մարդկանց մոտ։ Բաց լողազգեստի գյուտը սովորաբար վերագրվում է ֆրանսիացի Լուի Ռեարդին՝ 1946 թվականին: Սակայն Ավստրալիայում Սթաֆորդն առաջինն էր, որը 1930-ականներից իր համար երկու մասից լողազգեստներ էր պատրաստում:
1943 թվականին նա համարձակվեց նման լողազգեստով հայտնվել Քվինսլենդի լողափերից մեկում և անմիջապես հայտնվեց տեղի պահպանողական հասարակության ուշադրության կենտրոնում։ Նրա լողազգեստով շատերը սկսեցին հետաքրքրվել, ուստի Սթաֆորդը մտածեց արտադրություն սկսելու մասին։

Դիզայները ստեղծել է վառ, գունագեղ բիկինի լողազգեստներ՝ հաճախ տպագրված գործվածքներով:

Շուտով նրա աշխատանքները ցուցադրվեցին Լոնդոնում և Նյու Յորքում, և Սթաֆորդը հայտնի դարձավ նորաձևության աշխարհում: 1952 թվականին ոստիկանության տեսուչները մոդել Էնն Ֆերգյուսոնին խնդրեցին հեռանալ Surfers Paradise Beach-ից, քանի որ նա կրում էր Paula Stafford բիկինի:  Բիկինիի ժողովրդականությունն ի վերջո ամրապնդվեց հետպատերազմյան դարաշրջանում՝ գործվածքների սակավության պատճառով, և Սթաֆորդը պատմության մեջ մնաց՝ որպես ավստրալական բիկինի լողասգեստի հեղինակ:

1993-ին Փոլա Սթաֆֆորդը պարգևատրվել է շքանշանով նորաձևության ոլորտին մատուցած ծառայությունների համար: Նրա աշխատանքները ցուցադրվում են Քվինսլենդ նահանգի Բունդալ քաղաքի Gold Coast Historical Society թանգարանում:
