Ինչպես տեղեկացնում է Orer.am-ը, Սեյսմիկ պաշտպանության ազգային ծառայության շենքերի և շինությունների սեյսմակայունության կենտրոնի բաժնի պետ Գուրգեն Ամալյանն այսօր լրագրողներին հայտնել է, որ 1988 թվականի Սպիտակի երկրաշարժի հետևանքներն անսպասելի չեն եղել մասնագետների համար: Նրա կարծիքով՝ 25.000 մարդկային զոհը, 19.000 հաշմանդամը, 514.000 անօթևանը և 13 մլդ դոլարի վնասը սպասելի կորուստներ էին, քանի որ շինությունները սեյսմակայուն չէին: Պրն. Ամալյանի դիտարկմամբ` տնտեսապես թույլ զարգացած երկրներում՝ Հայաստան, Հայիթի և այլն, որտեղ տեղի են ունենում խոշոր երկրաշարժեր, լինում են նաև մեծ ավերածություններ, իսկ ԱՄՆ-ի և Ճապոնիայի նման ուժեղ տնտեսություն ունեցող երկրներում ավերածություններն ավելի փոքր են լինում:Այս ամենի պատճառն, ըստ մասնագետի, այն է, որ թույլ տնտեսություն ունեցող երկիրը չի կարող կառուցել սեյսմակայուն շենքեր: «Օրինակ՝ եթե 8 բալի փոխարեն ուզում ենք կառուցել 9 բալանոց երկրաշարժին դիմակայող շենք, ապա շենքի ինքնարժեքը 28 տոկոսով բարձրանում է, հետևաբար այդ շենքերն ավելի թանկ կարժենան, ինչը միշտ չէ, որ կապահովի դրանց վաճառքը: Արդյունքում էժան շենքեր են` աղետալի հետևանքներով»,-նշեց սեյսմակայության կենտրոնի բաժնի պետը: Մասնագետի պնդմամբ՝ 1988-ին շենքերի մասսայական փլուզումները պայմանավորված էին բազմաթիվ գործոններով` սեյմիկ վտանգի թերագնահատում, սեյսմակայուն շինարարության անկատար նորմեր, շինարարական աշխատանքների ցածր որակ և մեր ազգին բնորոշ ինքնագործունեություն, որը կատարվում էր շենքերը կառուցելիս. «Հայերին բնորոշ է քանդել պատերը, միացնել սենյակները և ստանալ մեծ սենյակներ»,-հիշեցրեց Գուրգեն Ամալյանը: Ամալյանը հավաստիացնրեց, որ այսօր պետական գերատեսչությունները և նախարարությունն ավելի լավ են պատրաստված բնական աղետին դիմակայելուն, սակայն պետք է ավելի ակտիվ գործունեություն իրականացնել այս հարցի հետ կապված՝ շենքերի սեյսմադիմացկունությունն ամրապնդելու համար: Այդ հարցում սեյսմակայունության կենտրոնի բաժնի պետը կարևորեց մայրաքաղաքի քաղաքպետարանի կողմից վթարային շենքերի ապամոտաժումը և նոր շինությունների կառուցումը:
