Եվրոպական խորհրդի ներկայիս նախագահ Շառլ Միշելը, որի մանդատի ժամկետը լրանում է 2024 թվականի նոյեմբերի վերջին, ասել է, որ մասնակցելու է Եվրախորհրդարանի ընտրություններին և ամռանը կլքի իր պաշտոնը՝ զբաղեցնելու պատգամավորի աթոռը։ Այս մասին գրում է ՌԻԱ «Նովոստի»-ն:

Նախորդ օրը բելգիական Soir պարբերականը հաղորդել էր, որ Միշելը կարող է ղեկավարել Բելգիայի լիբերալ կուսակցության բարեփոխումների շարժման թեկնածուների ցուցակը Եվրախորհրդարանի առաջիկա ընտրություններում:

«Ես որոշել եմ մասնակցել 2024 թվականի հունիսին կայանալիք եվրոպական ընտրություններին»,- ասել է Միշելը բելգիական առաջատար լրատվամիջոցներին տված հարցազրույցում։

Նա պարզաբանել է, որ Եվրոպական խորհրդի նախագահի պաշտոնը չի կարող զուգակցվել Եվրախորհրդարանի անդամի աշխատանքի հետ, ուստի նա հրաժարական կտա մինչև հուլիսի 16-ը` նոր գումարման Եվրախորհրդարանի պատգամավորների երդման օրը:

Միշելը նաև ասել է, որ Եվրամիության երկրների և կառավարությունների ղեկավարները հունիսի վերջին-հուլիսի սկզբին կհավաքվեն գագաթնաժողովի համար՝ ընտրելու Եվրոպական խորհրդի նոր նախագահին։ Նա հույս է հայտնել, որ իր իրավահաջորդը պաշտոնը կստանձնի ամռանը։ Հակառակ դեպքում Եվրոպական խորհրդի ղեկավարի գործառույթները կարող են փոխանցվել Հունգարիային, որն այդ պահին նախագահելու է ԵՄ խորհուրդը։
