Պապուա Նոր Գվինեայի վարչապետ Ջեյմս Մարապեն կարծում է, որ իր երկիրը չպետք է ասոցացվի մարդակերության հետ: Նա այսպես է արձագանքել ԱՄՆ նախագահ Ջո Բայդենի խոսքերին, ով հայտարարել է, որ Երկրորդ համաշխարհային պատերազմի ժամանակ իր հորեղբոր՝ Ամբրոզ Ֆիննեգանի մարմինը չի հաջողվել գտնել մարդակերների պատճառով։

«Բայդենը, ըստ երևույթին, ակնարկել է, որ իր հորեղբորը կերել են մարդակերները: Նրա խոսքերը, հնարավոր է, լեզվի սայթաքում էին, բայց իմ երկիրն արժանի չէ նման պիտակի», - Associated Press-ը  մեջբերում է երկրի վարչապետի խոսքերը:

Մարապեն հավելել է, որ «Երկրորդ աշխարհամարտի նյութական ապացույցները ցրված են ամբողջ երկրում, այդ թվում՝ ինքնաթիռը, որը տեղափոխում էր նախագահ Բայդենի հորեղբոյրը»։ Այդ կապակցությամբ նա ԱՄՆ-ին կոչ է արել «որոնողական աշխատանքներ իրականացնել Պապուա Նոր Գվինեայում և գտնել զոհված ամերիկացի զինվորականների մնացորդները»:

Ավելի վաղ, ինչպես հայտնել ենք, Բայդենը հայտարարել է, որ իր հորեղբայրը, ով եղել է ԱՄՆ ռազմաօդային ուժերի օդաչու, մահացել է Նոր Գվինեայում՝ Երկրորդ համաշխարհային պատերազմի ժամանակ։ «Նրա դին այդպես էլ չգտնվեց, քանի որ Նոր Գվինեայի այդ հատվածում իրոք շատ մարդակերներ կային»,-պնդում է ԱՄՆ նախագահը։
