Այսօր Բրյուսելում կկայանա ԵՄ-ի` սպառազինման հարցով պատմության մեջ ամենամեծ գագաթնաժողովը, հայտնում է Bild-ը՝ մանրամասնելով, որ ճգնաժամային գագաթնաժողովում ԵՄ 27 պետությունների և կառավարությունների ղեկավարներ կքննարկեն, թե ինչպես Եվրոպան կարող է փակել այն բացը, որն առաջացել է այն բանից հետո, երբ ԱՄՆ նոր վարչակազմը դադարեցրել է ռազմական օգնությունն Ուկրաինային: Հանդիպմանը կմասնակցի Ուկրաինայի նախագահ Վլադիմիր Զելենսկին։

Քանի որ այժմ նույնիսկ ՆԱՏՕ-ի 5-րդ հոդվածի կիրառման դեպքում ԱՄՆ-ի օգնությունը երաշխավորված չէ, գագաթնաժողովին կքննարկվի նաև ընդհանուր առմամբ եվրոպական ռազմական ներուժի ամրապնդումը։ 

Եվրահանձնաժողովի նախագահ Ուրսուլա ֆոն դեր Լեյենը օրերս առաջարկել էր Եվրոպայի վերազինման «ReArm Europe» ծրագիր՝ 800 միլիարդ եվրո ընդհանուր արժողությամբ։ Առաջիկա չորս տարվա ընթացքում ԵՄ երկրները պետք է մոբիլիզացնեն 650 միլիարդ եվրո՝ պետական ​​պարտքի  սահմանափակումների շրջանակից դուրս։

Մինչդեռ Բրյուսելը պետք է 150 միլիարդ եվրո հատկացնի, չնայած այն հանգամանքին, որ պաշտպանության ոլորտը ֆորմալ առումով իր իրավասությունների մեջ չէ։ Այս գումարը, ի թիվս այլնի, կօգտագործվի օգնելու տնտեսապես թույլ երկրներին ֆինանսավորելու Ուկրաինային ռազմական աջակցությունը։ Առաջնահերթ գնումների թվում են՝ հակաօդային պաշտպանության և հակահրթիռային պաշտպանության համակարգերը, հրետանային կայանքները, անօդաչու սարքերը։

Հունգարիայի վարչապետ Վիկտոր Օրբանը և Սլովակիայի վարչապետ Ռոբերտ Ֆիցոն արդեն հայտարարել են, որ դեմ են վերազինման այս ծրագրերին, հատկապես Ուկրաինային հետագա ռազմական օգնությանը: Իտալիայի վարչապետ Ջորջիա Մելոնին ծանր վիճակում է հայտնվել՝ նա աջակցում է Ուկրաինային, բայց սերտ կապեր ունի ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփի հետ։ Մելոնին փորձում է հարթել իրավիճակը. նրա կարծիքով, Եվրոպան և ԱՄՆ-ն պետք է հնարավորինս արագ բարելավեն հարաբերությունները։
