Գազայի հատվածի վրա իսրայելական հարձակումների հետևանքով մեկ օրում զոհվել է ութ մարդ, հայտնում է Al Jazeera հեռուստաալիքը։ Նշվում է, որ Նեցարիմ միջանցքի տարածքում անօդաչու թռչող սարքի հարվածից վեց մարդ է զոհվել։ Էլ Շուքա քաղաքում անօդաչու թռչող սարքի ընկնելու հետևանքով ևս մեկ կին է զոհվել: Մեկ ուրիշը հայտնաբերվել է Գազայի կենտրոնում գնդակային վնասվածքներով։

Հունվարի 19-ից ուժի մեջ է մտել Իսրայելի և պաղեստինյան ՀԱՄԱՍ շարժման միջև հրադադարը։ Ենթադրվում էր, որ այն բաղկացած կլինի երեք փուլից, որոնց ընթացքում կողմերը կփոխանակեն պատանդներին ու մահացածների մարմինները։ Առաջին փուլն ավարտվել է մարտի 1-ին։

Ավելի ուշ՝ մարտի 2-ին, ԱՄՆ նախագահի հատուկ բանագնաց Սթիվ Ուիթքոֆը կողմերին ներկայացրել է համաձայնագրի թարմացված տարբերակը։ Իսրայելն անմիջապես ընդունել է ամերիկյան նախաձեռնությունը։ ՀԱՄԱՍ-ը կտրականապես մերժել է նախաձեռնությունը՝ հայտարարելով, որ հետևում է նախկինում հաստատված պայմանավորվածություններին։ Հաջորդ օրը The Jerusalem Post-ը հայտնել է, որ իսրայելական բանակը կարող է վերսկսել ռազմական գործողությունները Գազայում, եթե ՀԱՄԱՍ-ը չհամաձայնի զինադադարի երկրորդ փուլին։

Իսրայելը նաև որպես լծակ օգտագործել է անկլավում էլեկտրաէներգիայի անջատման սպառնալիքը։ Իսրայելի էներգետիկայի նախարար Էլի Քոհենը մարտի 9-ին կարգադրել է դադարեցնել էլեկտրաէներգիայի մատակարարումը Գազայի հատված։ Մարտի 11-ին ՀԱՄԱՍ-ը համաձայնություն է տվել հակամարտության կարգավորման նոր փուլին։
