Միջազգայնագետ Սուրեն Սարգսյանը գրում է․ «Տարիներ շարունակ հայ-ամերիկյան հարաբերությունների օրակարգի առյուծի բաժինը ընկնում էր Հայաստանին տրամադրվող օգնության ծրագրերին։ Դա այն աջակցությունն էր, որ Վաշինգտոնը տրամադրում էր ոստիկանությանը, արդարադատության ոլորտին, դատական համակարգին, տնտեսական որոշ ծրագրերին և այլն։ Հիմա, երբ Թրամփը էապես կրճատեց արտաքին օգնությունը, հայ-ամերիկյան երկկողմ օրակարգն ավելի սնանկ դարձավ։ Եթե ամերիկյան օգնության ծրագրերն այլևս չեն քննարկվում, USAID-ն այլևս չկա, ապա փոխգործակցության ոլորտներն էլ էապես նվազել են։
 
Սակայն այսօր բացվում է նոր հնարավորություն, և դա տեղի է ունենում Թրամփի կողմից նախաձեռնված մաքսատուրքերի պատերազմի արդյունքում։ Արդեն շուրջ 50 երկիր ցանկություն է հայտնել բանակցել ԱՄՆ-ի հետ նոր առևտրային պայմանների շուրջ, ինչը օգտակար է լինելու թե՛ ամերիկացիներին, թե՛ գործընկերներին։ Հայաստանը, իհարկե, առևտրի փոքր ծավալներ ունի ԱՄՆ-ի հետ, բայց մեր արտահանումը մեզ համար կենսական նշանակություն ունի։ Հետևաբար, սա մի ոլորտ է, որտեղ պետք է աշխատել (չնայած՝ ո՞վ աշխատի)։
 
Վերջիվերջո, դժվար է չէ՞ Թրամփի թիմին հիմնավորել, թե ինչու պետք է Հայաստանում ամերիկյան մեքենաները մաքսազերծվեն 30+% ով (իրեն բնականաբար չի հետաքրքրում, որ մնացածն էլ նույն մաքսատուրքն ունեն), Apple-ի և այլ ամերիկյան ընկերությունների վրա կիրառվի բարձր մաքսատուրք, իսկ ինքը մեզ վրա 10% լրացուցիչ մաքսատուրք չսահմանի»։
