Ֆլորիդայի համալսարանի գիտնականները նշել են առաջին տիպի շաքարախտի ամենավաղ նշանը՝ ենթաստամոքսային գեղձի ինսուլին արտադրող մանր բջիջների մահը։ Հետազոտության արդյունքները ներկայացված են Diabetes ամսագրում։

Գիտնականները պարզել են, որ իմունային համակարգն ի սկզբանե հարձակվում է ոչ թե Լանգերհանսի խոշոր կղզյակների, այլ ենթաստամոքսային գեղձի հյուսվածքում ցրված մեկուսի բետա-բջիջների և մանր խմբերի վրա։ Սա տեղի է ունենում դեռևս մինչև որևէ ախտանիշի ի հայտ գալը, այն ժամանակից շատ առաջ, երբ վնասվում են ինսուլինի հիմնական արտադրության համար պատասխանատու մեծ կղզյակները։

Բջիջների քայքայման այս կարգը բացատրում է, թե ինչու է շաքարախտը երեխաների մոտ ավելի արագ զարգանում. նրանց ենթաստամոքսային գեղձը զգալիորեն ավելի շատ մանր կղզյակներ է պարունակում, որոնք առաջինն են հայտնվում իմունիտետի հարվածի տակ։ Հետազոտողների կարծիքով, եթե հնարավոր լինի ֆիքսել հենց այս վաղ փուլը և պաշտպանել խոշոր կղզյակները, ապա հնարավոր կլինի դանդաղեցնել կամ պոտենցիալ կանխել հիվանդության զարգացումը։

Գիտնականները հիշեցրել են, որ առաջին տիպի շաքարախտի դեպքում օրգանիզմն ամբողջությամբ զրկվում է ինսուլին արտադրելու հնարավորությունից՝ իմունային համակարգը սխալմամբ ոչնչացնում է բետա-բջիջները։ Այս պաթոլոգիան կապված չէ սխալ սննդակարգի հետ։ Երկրորդ տիպի շաքարախտի դեպքում բջիջներն ի սկզբանե պահպանվում են, սակայն մարմնի հյուսվածքները դադարում են նորմալ արձագանքել ինսուլինին, ինչի պատճառով այն անբավարար է դառնում։ Հիվանդությունը ձևավորվում է աստիճանաբար և սովորաբար առաջանում է նյութափոխանակության խանգարումների պատճառով։

Հետազոտությունը կատարվել է միջազգային nPOD կենսաբազայի նյութերով, որտեղ հավաքված են շաքարախտի տարբեր փուլեր ունեցող մարդկանց ենթաստամոքսային գեղձի հյուսվածքները։ Ստացված տվյալներն առաջարկում են հիվանդության սկզբնավորման նոր մոդել և ճանապարհ են բացում դեպի ավելի վաղ ախտորոշում, ինչպես նաև կանխարգելիչ միջամտությունների մշակում։
