«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է.

Կոկտեյլների բոլոր սիրահարները լավ ծանոթ են Cointreau լիկյորին, առանց որի անհնար է պատկերացնել աշխարհահռչակ B- 5 2 - ը, Joker- ը, White Lady - ն կ ա մ Margarita-ն։

Հարուստ, դառը-քաղցր նարնջի համով այս ընպելիքը հորինել է Էդուարդ Կուանտրոն, որն իր եղբայրների հետ միասին 1875 թվականին հիմնադրել էր մի փոքրիկ թորման գործարան։ Անժե քաղաքում գտնվող գործարանը մասնագիտացած էր մրգային հիմքով ալկոհոլային խմիչքներ պատրաստելու մեջ։ Նարինջներից պատրաստված լիկյորի բաղադրատոմսը մշակվել էր առաջիններից մեկը։ Աստիճանաբար մշակվել էր եզակի բաղադրատոմս՝ օգտագործելով այդ ցիտրուսային մրգի տարբեր տեսակներ։ Արդյունքում Էդուարդ Կուանտրոն արտոնագրել էր ինչպես բաղադրատոմսը, այնպես էլ ուղղանկյուն շիշը, որը մնում է որպես այդ հայտնի լիկյորի «ստորագրություն»։

Ըմպելիքի ճշգրիտ բաղադրատոմսը մնում է խիստ պահպանված գաղտնիք, բայց մոտավոր տարբերակը կարելի է վերստեղծել նույնիսկ տանը։ Լիկյորը պատրաստվում է հացահատիկի և ճակնդեղի սպիրտի խառնուրդից։ Դրա համը գալիս է Անտիլ յան կղզիներից ներմուծված հատուկ տեսակի դառը նարնջի կեղևից, որն այդ ըմպելիքին հաղորդում է ոչ միայն ուժեղ ցիտրուսային բույր, այլ նաև առանձնահատուկ դառնություն։ Անհրաժեշտ են նաև քաղցր, հասուն նարինջներ: Դրանք բերվում են իսպանական և բրազիլական պլանտացիաներից, և, ըստ երևույթին, օգտագործվում է ոչ միայն դրանց կեղևը, այլ նաև պտուղը: Սկզբում կեղևը խառնվում է սպիրտի հետ, այնուհետև ստացված թուրմը թորվում է: Օգտագործվում է միայն միջուկը, իսկ սկզբնական և վերջնական ֆրակցիաները կրկին թորվում են: Այնուհետև թորվածքը նոսրացվում է աղբյուրի ջրով և շաքարի օշարակով: Արդյունքում ստացվում է թափանցիկ, սաթի գույնի, 40 տոկոսանոց ալկոհոլային խմիչք՝ անսովոր ցիտրուսային համով և բույրով, ինչպես նաև անմոռանալի հետհամով:

Չնայած Կուանտրո ընտանիքի՝ գովազդի մեջ արած սահմանափակ ներդրումներին, այս հետաքրքիր լիկյորն իր ուշագրավ համի շնորհիվ արագ տարածվել է ամբողջ երկրում և մի քանի տարվա ընթացքում հայտնվել է նաև արտասահմանում: Այն նույնքան արագ էլ դարձել է մոտ երկու հարյուր տարբեր կոկտեյլների հիմնական բաղադրիչը: Այս լիկյորը մտել է էլիտար ալկոհոլային խմիչքների կատեգորիա և ճանաչվել նախ՝ Եվրոպայում, ապա՝ Միացյալ Նահանգներում, Կանադայում և Հարավային Ամերիկայում: Արդեն 20-րդ դարում Կուանտրո ընտանիքի կողմից կյանքի են կոչվել մի քանի հմուտ գովազդային արշավներ: Հետագայում այդ լիկյորի՝ «Ռեմի Մարտինի» հետ միաձուլումը նույնպես խթանել է վաճառքը:
