Պենտագոնի ծառայողները քննարկում են ՆԱՏՕ-ի դաշնակիցներին պատժելու տարբերակները՝ Իրանի դեմ պատերազմում ԱՄՆ-ին օգնելու պատրաստակամություն չցուցաբերելու համար։ Առաջարկվող տարբերակների թվում նշվում են Իսպանիայի անդամակցության կասեցումը ՆԱՏՕ-ին և Վաշինգտոնի դիրքորոշման վերանայումը Ֆոլկլենդյան (Մալվինյան) կղզիների հարցում: Այս մասին գրում է Reuters գործակալությունը՝ հղում անելով իր աղբյուրին։

Ըստ նրա տվյալների՝ նման գաղափարներ են շարադրված մի գրության մեջ, որը տարածվել է բարձրաստիճան աշխատակիցների շրջանում։ Գործակալությունը միևնույն ժամանակ չի հստակեցնում, թե ով է դրա հեղինակը։ Գրության մեջ հիասթափություն է հայտնվում առ այն, որ ՆԱՏՕ-ի գծով ԱՄՆ-ի որոշ դաշնակիցներ թույլ չեն տվել ամերիկյան ռազմաօդային ուժերին օգտագործել իրենց տարածքում գտնվող բազաները՝ իրանական արշավի շրջանակներում մարտական առաջադրանքներ կատարելիս։

Ինչպես հայտնել է գործակալության զրուցակիցը, Պենտագոնում քննարկվող միջոցները պետք է հստակ ազդակ հաղորդեն ՆԱՏՕ-ի դաշնակիցներին՝ նպատակ ունենալով թուլացնել եվրոպացիների մոտ առկա արտոնյալ լինելու զգացողությունը։

Այսպես, Իսպանիայի անդամակցության կասեցումը, որի ղեկավարությունն ամենախիստն է քննադատել Իրանի դեմ պատերազմը, սահմանափակ հետևանքներ կունենա ԱՄՆ-ի ռազմական գործողությունների համար, բայց կունենա զգալի խորհրդանշական էֆեկտ, կարծում են Պենտագոնում։

Թե ինչպես կարող են ԱՄՆ-ը հասնել Իսպանիայի անդամակցության կասեցմանը, գրության մեջ չի հստակեցվում։ Գործակալությունը նաև նշում է, որ չի կարողացել ինքնուրույն պարզել՝ արդյոք դաշինքում առհասարակ գոյություն ունի նման ընթացակարգ։

Մեկ այլ միջոց է նշվում եվրոպական երկրների կայսերական հավակնություններին ԱՄՆ-ի կողմից ցուցաբերվող դիվանագիտական աջակցության վերանայումը։ Մասնավորապես, Վաշինգտոնը կարող է վերանայել դիրքորոշումը Ֆոլկլենդյան կղզիների կարգավիճակի վերաբերյալ։ Այժմ ԱՄՆ-ը ճանաչում է, որ այդ տարածքը կառավարում է Մեծ Բրիտանիան, սակայն դրանց հավակնում է Արգենտինան, որը ղեկավարում է ամերիկյան առաջնորդ Դոնալդ Թրամփին գաղափարապես մոտ կանգնած նախագահ Խավիեր Միլեյը, գրում է գործակալությունը։ Գործողությունների ևս մեկ տարբերակ է նշվում խնդրահարույց երկրների ներկայացուցիչների հեռացումը ՆԱՏՕ-ի կարևոր և հեղինակավոր պաշտոններից։
