Գերմանիայի կանցլեր Ֆրիդրիխ Մերցն անիրատեսական է համարել մոտ ժամանակներս Եվրոպական միությանը (ԵՄ) Ուկրաինայի անդամակցության շուրջ բանակցությունների արդյունավետ ավարտը։ Այս մասին մայիսի 21-ին հայտնել է գերմանական DPA գործակալությունը՝ հղում անելով կանցլերի՝ Եվրահանձնաժողովի նախագահ Ուրսուլա ֆոն դեր Լյայենին ուղղված նամակին։

«Ակնհայտ է, որ կարճաժամկետ հեռանկարում անհնար է ավարտին հասցնել անդամակցության գործընթացը», — մեջբերել է գերմանական WELT պարբերականը՝ հղում անելով գործակալության տրամադրած նամակի տեքստին։

Գերմանիայի կանցլերն իր նամակում հավելել է, որ ԵՄ-ին Ուկրաինայի անդամակցության համար ներկայում գոյություն ունեն «անթիվ-անհամար խոչընդոտներ»։ Նաև դժվարություններ կարող են առաջանալ Բրյուսելի և Կիևի միջև պայմանագրերի և կոնվենցիաների ստորագրման հարցում։ Այս կապակցությամբ Մերցն առաջարկել է Ուկրաինային տալ հատուկ՝ «ասոցացված անդամի» կարգավիճակ, որը թույլ կտա Ուկրաինայի ներկայացուցիչներին մասնակցել դաշինքի հիմնական մարմինների աշխատանքին (առանց քվեարկության իրավունքի)։
