Քենիայի Ռիֆտ Վալի (Մեծ Բեկվածքի հովիտ) շրջանի քաղաքներից մեկում հրդեհ է բռնկվել աղջիկների դպրոցի հանրակացարանում, ինչի հետևանքով առնվազն 15 աշակերտուհի է զոհվել, ևս 79-ը վիրավորվել են։ Այս մասին հայտնում է The Washington Post-ը:

Հրդեհը բռնկվել է գիշերօթիկ դպրոցի հանրակացարաններում։ Պատճառը դեռևս չի պարզվել։

Դպրոցական հրդեհները սովորական երևույթ են քենիական գիշերօթիկ դպրոցներում, ընդ որում՝ դրանցից մի քանիսը տեղի են ունենում հրկիզումների, իսկ մյուսները՝ էլեկտրականության անսարքությունների պատճառով։

Քենիայի նորագույն պատմության մեջ ամենաշատ զոհերով դպրոցական հրդեհը տեղի է ունեցել 2001 թվականին, երբ Մաչակոս շրջանի հանրակացարանի հրդեհի հետևանքով 67 աշակերտ է զոհվել:

2024 թվականին Քենիայի կենտրոնական շրջանի դպրոցական հրդեհի ժամանակ 21 աշակերտ ողջ-ողջ այրվել էր: Նախագահ Ուիլյամ Ռուտոն եռօրյա սուգ էր հայտարարել։

2017 թվականին Նայրոբիի դպրոցական հրդեհի հետևանքով զոհվել էր 10 աշակերտ։ Աշակերտներից մեկին սպանության մեղադրանք էր առաջադրվել։
