Հին հումորային առած կա, որն ասում է. «Վիճակագրությունը ցույց է տալիս ոչ թե այն, ինչ կա իրականում, այլ այն, ինչ պետք է պատվիրատուին»: Այս յուրօրինակ հումորն ընդհանրական կերպով ներկայացնում է մերօրյա իրականությունը:
Բանն այն է, որ Հայաստանում գլոբալ վիճակագրական աշխատանքով զբաղվում է միայն մեկ կառույց` ՀՀ ԱՎԾ-ն: Նշված կառույցն իր աշխատանքների համար ֆինանսավորումը ստանում է պետական բյուջեից: Այս պարագայում բնական է դառնում նաև այն, որ ՀՀ ԱՎԾ-ն կարող է որոշակիորեն փոփոխել այդ ցուցանիշները` ի նպաստ կառավարության ներկայացրած ծրագրի: Իրականում, միլիոնավոր թվերի լաբիրինթոսում բավականին հեշտ է, այսպես ասած, կեղծել տվյալները` ստանալով առավել ցանկալի վերջնաարդյունք, իսկ երբ այս ամենին ավելանում են նաև նախորդ տարվա ցուցանիշները, ամեն ինչ դառնում է ավելի բարդ, իսկ ոչ մասնագետների համար գործնականում անհասկանալի: Ներկայացնենք մի պարզ օրինակ.
Հայաստանում 1991 թվականին ավելի քան 3.3 միլիոն մարդ էր բնակվում: Վիճակագրական տվյալների նույնիսկ մակերեսային վերլուծության արդյունքում կնկատենք, որ յուրաքանչյուր տարի բնակչության շարժի ընդհանուր ցուցանիշը եղել է բացասական, ինչի արդյունքում էլ այս 20 տարիների ընթացքում միջին մոտավոր փոփոխությունը կազմել է շուրջ 30 000 մարդ:
Այսինքն` ինչպես մահացածների և ծնվածների տարբերության, այնպես էլ արտագաղթի ու ներգաղթի պատճառով տարեկան ՀՀ բնակչությունը նվազել է միջինում 30 հազարով (որոշ տարիների ավելի շատ, որոշներին համեմատաբար քիչ): Եթե այս 30 000-ը բազմապատկենք նախորդ 20 տարիներով, ապա պարզ կդառնա, որ այս տարիների ընթացքում ՀՀ բնակչությունը նվազել է 600 հազարով: Սակայն 2014 թվականին ԱՎԾ-ի հրապարակած տվյալներն այդ ցուցանիշից ավելի քան 400 հազարով ավելի բարձր էին` շուրջ 3.41 միլիոն մարդ:
Սա ընդամենը մի պարզ օրնակ էր, իսկ թե ի՞նչ թվաբանական ֆոկուսներ են կատարվում իրականում, կարելի է միայն պատկերացնել, քանի որ այդ տվյալներն ընդամենը մեկ կառույց է տրամադրում: Կան որոշ հասարակական կազմակերպություններ, որոնք զբաղվում են առավել փոքր սեկտորների ուսումնասիրությամբ, մինչդեռ զարգացած երկրներում կան բազմաթիվ խոշոր վիճակագրական ընկերություններ, որոնք լայն շերտերին ապահովում են այլընտրանքային տվյալներով: Այս երևույթը նաև որոշակի մրցակցություն է ստեղծում, ինչի արդյունքում էլ ինֆորմացիան դառնում է առավել հավաստի:

-Դու հավատո՞ւմ ես, որ մեր քաղաքում 17846 հատ ագռավ կա:

-Դե որ չես հավատում, գնա ու հաշվիր»:
Հենց այսպիսին է նաև մեր իրականությունը, երբ այլընտրանքային վճակագրական տվյալներ չկան, մեզ մնում է միայն հավատալ կամ չհավատալ ԱՎԾ-ի հրապարակած տվյալներին:
Ցանկալի է հավատալ, քանզի հակառակ դեպքում հաշվելն այնքան էլ իրատեսական չէ:
