Հայաստանում ԱՄՆ նորանշանակ դեսպան Ռիչարդ Միլս կրտսերը երդմնակալության ժամանակ խոսել է հայ-ամերիկյան հարաբերությունների մասին և ներկայացրել դեսպանատան առաջնահերթությունները: «Արմենպրես»-ի փոխանցմամբ, դեսպանը նշել է, որ Հայաստանի հետ ԱՄՆ քաղաքականության նպատակը շատ պարզ է. «Ազատ և բարգավաճող Հայաստան' իր հարևանների հետ խաղաղ գոյակցությամբ: Իմ առաքելությունն այն է, որ այս առաջնահերթ նպատակին հասնելու համար ցուցաբերեմ աջակցություն Հայաստանի կառավարությանն ու մարդկանց, որպեսզի Հայաստանում ամրապնդվի ժողովրդավարությունն ու օրենքի գերակայությունը, տնտեսության լիբերալացումը, առևտրաշրջանառության մեծացումը մի շարք գործընկեր պետությունների, այդ թվում՝ ԱՄՆ-ի հետ»,- ասել է դեսպանը: Նա շեշտել է, որ իր և դեսպանատան օրակարգում կա երկու կարևորագույն հարց: Դրանցից առաջինը տարածաշրջանում խաղաղության հաստատումն է: «Անցնող տարվա ընթացքում լարվածության մեծացումն ու ԼՂ հակամարտության շփման գծում զոհերի առկայությունը մեզ շատ է մտահոգում: Դա որևէ ազգի շահերից չի բխում: Միացյալ Նահանգները բարձր են գնահատում Հայաստանի պատրաստակամությունը' ԼՂ հակամարտությունը կարգավորել խաղաղ ճանապարհով: Միացյալ Նահանգները պատրաստ է աջակցություն տրամադրել կողմերին, հարցը ԵԱՀԿ Մինսկի խմբի շրջանակներում խաղաղ, փոխհամաձայնեցված կարգավորելու համար»,- ասել է դեսպանը: Երկրորդ կարևորագույն հարցը Հայոց ցեղասպանության 100-րդ տարելիցն է: «Երկրորդ կարևորագույն հարցը, որը հատուկ նշանակություն ունի Երևանում, 20-րդ դարի ամենասարսափելի գազանություններից մեկի 100-րդ տարելիցի ոգեկոչումն է: 1915թվականը մեծ ու հատուկ նշանակություն ունի ողջ աշխարհի համար: ՀՀ-ում ԱՄՆ դեսպանությունը կաշխատի ցույց տալ, որ Միացյալ Նահանգներն ու ամերիկյան ժողովուրդը այս կարևոր պահին իրենց համերաշխությունն են հայտնում հայ ժողովրդին և երբեք, երբեք չեն մոռանա այս ողբերգությունը, որին զոհ են գնացել մեկ միլիոնից ավելի հայեր»,- ասել է դեսպանը:
