Երևի մեզնից յուրաքանչյուրը ծանոթ է «դեպրեսիա» բառին: Ոմանք այն մեկնաբանում են պարզապես տրամադրության անկում, ոմանք՝ որպես հոգեբանական խնդիրների կոմպլեքս: Սակայն ի՞նչ է իրականում այն «գիտության լեզվով»:
Այսպես՝ դեպրեսիան ՀՄԴ (Հիվանդությունների Միջազգային Դասակարգում) 10-րդ վերանայման F32 և F33 ենթախմբերի տակ գրանցված հոգեկան խանգարում է, որը բնութագրվում է «դեպրեսիվ տրիադայի» առկայությամբ՝ տրամադրության անկմամբ, շարժողական և մտածողական արգելակմամբ: Դեպրեսիան տրվում է բուժման, սակայն ներկայումս այն ամենատարածված հոգեկան խանգարումն է, որով տառապում են 40-ն անց յուրաքանչյուր 10-րդ մարդ, որոնցից 2/3-ը՝ կանայք:
Դեպրեսիայի առաջացման պատճառները բազմազան են: Հիմնականում դրանք բաժանվում են 2 խմբի՝ հոգեբանական և էնդոգեն, այսինքն՝ ներսից բխող (օրգանիզմից, հոգեկանից): Հոգեբանականի դեպքում խոսքը գնում է ուժեղ սթրեսների մասին, օրինակ՝ հարազատի, սոցիալական դիրքի կորուստ: Այս դեպքում խոսքը ռեակտիվ դեպրեսիայի մասին է: Երբ հոգեբանական կամ սոմատիկ (մարմնական) պատճառները բացակայում են, ապա այս դեպքում խոսքը գնում է էնդոգեն դեպրեսիայի մասին , այսինքն՝ առանց տեսանելի լուրջ պատճառի:
Մոնոամինային տեսությունը դեպրեսիայի առաջացումը կապում է բիոգենային ամինների (մասնավորապես՝ սերոտոնինի, նորադրենալինի և դոֆամինի) պակասի հետ:
Դեպրեսիան կարող է առաջանալ նաև որպես դեղորայքային բուժման անցանկալի հետևանք (օրինակ՝ լևոդոպներով, բենզադիազեպիններով բուժվելիս): Որպես կանոն՝ այս դեպքում այն անցնում է ինքուրույն, երբ դադարում են օգտագործել տվյալ դեղորայքները:

Դեպրեսիայի բուժումը իրականում այնքան էլ հեշտ պրոցես չէ: Լավագույն արդյունքի հասնելու համար օգտագործվում է երկու զուգահեռ մեթոդ՝ հոգեթերապևտիկ և դեղորայքային բուժում:
Հոգեթերապևտիկ մեթոդը բազմազան է: Սրա մեջ մտնում են բազմաթիվ հոգեբանական ուղղությունների առաջ քաշած տեսությունները՝ հոգեվերլուծություն, հիպնոս, աուտոտրեյնինգ և այլն: Գործընթացը պետք է իրականացվի փորձառու հոգեթերապևտի կամ հոգեբանի մոտ: Հիշե՛ք՝ նյարդաբանները դեպրեսիայի բուժմամբ թե՛ դե ֆակտո, թե՛ դե յուրե զբաղվելու իրավունք չունեն: Դեպրեսիան բուժող համապատասխան մասնագետ բժիշկը համարվում է հոգեբույժը:
Դեղորայքային բուժումը նույնպես բազմազան է: Հիմնականում կիրառվում են 3-րդ սերնդի հակադեպրեսանտներ (SsRI`սերոտոնինի հետգրավման սելեկտիվ ինհիբիտորներ), օրինակ՝ պարոքսետին, էսցիտալոպրամ, ֆլուոքսետին, կլոմիպրամին: Ժամանակակից բժշկական պրակտիկայում սրանք ավելի շատ օգտագործվող տեսակներն են, քանի որ գրեթե չունեն անցանկալի հետևանքներ:
