1980 թ.–ի դեկտեմբերի 20–ին, 19–ամյա Ջին Հիլլարդն իր ծնողների մոտ էր գնում։ Նրա մեքենան հանկարծ խափանվեց, և աղջիկը ստիպված էր ոտքով հասնել ընկերոջ տուն, ով այդ վայրից մի փոքր հեռու էր ապրում։ Դրսում –22 °С աստիճան ցուրտ էր։ Աղջկան գրեթե հաջողվել էր հասնել ընկերոջ տուն, բայց ցրտահարությունից նա հանկարծ կորցրեց գիտակցությունը։ 6 ժամ ձյան մեջ մնալուց հետո նրան գտավ ընկերը, ով անմիջապես հիվանդանոց տեղափոխեց աղջկան։ Դա ավելի շուտ բեռնափոխադրում էր հիշեցնում, քանի որ աղջիկը սառույցի կտոր պես կարծր էր։ Երբ Ջինին, այնուամենայնիվ, հասցրեցին հիվանդանոց, նա կյանքի ոչ մի նշան ցույց չէր տալիս։ Բացի այդ, նրա մաշկն այնքան կարծր էր, որ բժիշկները չէին կարողանում ներարկում կատարել։ Զարկերակը 12 զարկ րոպեում էր, իսկ մարմնի ջերմաստիճանն այնքան ցածր, որ ջերմաչափը չէր կարող չափել։ Բժիշկները համոզված էին, որ աղջիկը մահացած է, բայց, այնուամենայնիվ, որոշեցին նրան տաք սենյակում տեղավորել։ Նրանք վստահ էին, որ, եթե նույնիսկ Ջինին հաջողվի փրկվել, ապա միևնույնն է, նրա վերջույթները ծանր ցրտահարված էին և պետք է անդամահատվեին։ Ոչ ոք չէր սպասում նրան, ինչ տեղի ունեցավ հետո. «հալվող» մարմինը քիչ–քիչ սկսեց շարժվել։ Ջինը բացեց աչքերը և ջուր խնդրեց։ 3 օր անց Ջինն արդեն կարողանում էր քայլել, իսկ 6 ամիս անց նրան լիովին առողջ դուրս գրվեց հիվանդանոցից։ Աղջկան ծնողներն ու բժիշկները իսկական հրաշքի ականատես եղան։ Գիտնականների խոսքերով՝ այդպիսի երևույթ նկատվում է կենդանիների մոտ, որոնք ձմեռում են։ Տեղի ունեցածի միակ խելամիտ բացատրությունն այն էր, որ աղջկա օրգանիզմը սառչել է այնքան արագ, որ ոչնչացման մեխանիզմները չեն հասցրել գործի անցնել։
