Կորեացիների մոտ տարածված է մի առասպել, որը պատմում է, թե ինչպես է ստեղծվել կորեական ազգը: Առասպելում պատմվում է, որ սրանից հազարավոր տարիներ առաջ երկրի վրա իջավ Hwanung աստվածը, որ ստեղծեց կնոջն ու արջին: Այնուհետեւ սրանք ամուսնացան եւ որդի ունեցան Տանգուն անունով, որը հենց դարձավ Կորեայի հիմնադիրը: Մ.թ.ա. 2333թ. նա կառուցեց Չոսոն մայրաքաղաքը, եւ նորաստեղծ պետությունը սկսեց հզորանալ: Հետաքրքրական է, որ «Չոսոն» թարգմանաբար նշանակում է «Առավոտյան թարմության երկիր»:
Եվրոպացիներից առաջինը Կորեայում երեւացել են հոլանդացիները, 1600-ական թթ., առեւտարական նավով: 1910-1945թթ. Կորեան եղել է Ճապոնիայի գաղութը: Հենց 1945թ.-ին է Կորեայում ստեղծվել երկու հանրապետություն՝ Հարավային Կորեա եւ Հյուսիսային Կորեա:
Հարավային Կորեան համարվում է աշխարհի ամենաանվտանգ երկիրը, այստեղ առավել ծանր հանցագործությունները հազվադեպ երեւույթ են:
Շատերի կարծիքով, կորեացի աղջիկները շատ ավելի գեղեցիկ են, քան ճապոնուհիները կան չինուհիները: Երկրում մեծ պահանջարկ ունի պլաստիկ վիրաբուժությունը: Կորեացի աղջիկները շատ հետեւողականորեն են վերաբերվում իրենց արտաքինին, նրանց գրեթե երբեք չես հանդիպի առանց շպարի: Կորեացի տղաների մեծամասնությունը կարելի է անվանել շատ կանացի, նրանք հետեւում են իրենց արտաքինին այնպես, ինչպես աղջիկները, օգտվում են խնամքի տարբեր միջոցներից եւ այլն: Եթե ճանաչում եք կորեացի երգիչների կամ դերասանների, ապա կհաստատեք, որ նրանք, որպես կանոն, «քաղցրիկ» տղաներ են (խոսքը «Gangnam Style» երգողին չի վերաբերում):
Ամենատարածված կրոնը երկրում քրիստոնեությունն է, քրիստոնյա է երկրի բկակչության 29%-ը, բուդդիստների թիվը կազմում է 23%: Մոտ 46%-ը աթեիստներ են եւ այլն: Յորդո շրջանում գտնվող Ավետարանական եկեղեցին համարվում է աշխարհում ամենաշատ այցելուներ ունեցող քրիստոնեական տաճարը: Ամեն շաբաթ այս եկեղեցի է այցելում մոտ 20 հզր. մարդ:
Կորեայի ամենահայտնի ազգային տոներն են Նոր տարին՝ ըստ լուսնային օրացույցի, եւ Աշնանային փառատոնը:
Չնայած տարածված կարծիքին՝ Կորեայում հազվադեպ կարելի է հանդիպել մարդու, որը կյանքում գոնե մեկ անգամ կերել է շան միս:
Թեքվանդո մարտարվեստը հորինվել է Կորեայում:
Երկրի մայրաքաղաքը Սեուլն է, որտեղ ապրում է մոտ 10 մլն. մարդ: Թարգմանաբար «Սեուլ» հենց նշանակում է «մայրաքաղաք»:
