Հայաստանում յուրաքանչյուր 100 նորածին աղջկա հաշվարկով ծնվում է 115 տղա երեխա: Այդ ցուցանիշը համեմատելի է Չինաստանի և Հնդկաստանի որոշ շրջանների ցուցանիշների հետ, սակայն, ի տարբերություն այդ երկրների, գենդերային տարբերությունների հետևանքների տեսանկյունից` Հայաստանում երեխաների թվի միջև մեծ տարբերություն չկա: Նման եզրահանգման են եկել Համաշխարհային բանկի փորձագետները, ովքեր իրականացրել են «Չծնված աղջիկն երը Հայաստանում» հետազոտությունը: Հետազորտության ներկայացման ժամանակ ՀԲ փորձագետ Նիսթա Սինան տեղեկացրեց, որ իրենց հարցումներով` ընտանիքներում գերադասությունը տրվում է հիմնականում տղաներին, ինչն առավել ցցուն է արտահայտված գյուղերում: «Հարցման մասնակիցները նշել են, որ ցանկանում են ունենալ տղա երեխաներ տարբեր պատճառներով: Օրինակ, նրանք կարծում են, որ տարեց ժամանակ իրենց կարող են խնամել որդիները, տղաներն են դիտարկվում որպես ապագա ժառանգ, և, վերջապես, մարդիկ իրենց տոհմի շարունակությունը տեսնում են որդիների մեջ: Ի տարբերություն դրա, հասարակության շրջանում կա այն կարծրատիպը, որ աղջիկը «չի պատկանում» իրենց ընտանիքին, աղջիկը հիմնականում չի լինում ընտանիքի ժառանգը, աղջիկներն անպաշտպան են և այլն»,- «Արմենպրես»-ի փոխանցմամբ` ասաց Սինան:
Հետազոտության մյուս փորձագետ Ջորջիա Դեմարշի խոսքով` աղջիկ երեխաներից հրաժարվելուն է նպաստում այն, որ ծնողները կարողանում են վաղաժամ պարզել երեխայի սեռը: «Երեխա ունենալու կամ հղիությունն ընդհատելու մասին որոշման հիմքում մեծ դեր ունի ամուսնու և սկեսրոջ խոսքը: Իսկ այն կանաք, ովքեր չեն ընդդիմանում նման ճնշմանը, դա հիմնականում պատճառաբանում են ամուսնալուծությունից իրենց վախով»,- նշում է Դեմարշը: Փորձագետի խոսքով` կան երկրներ, որոնք արգելել են նախածննդյան փուլում պտղի սեռի բացահայտումը կամ ֆինանսական օժանդակո ւթյուն են ցուցաբերել աղջիկ երեխայի ծննդյան պարագայում:
Որպես խնդրի լուծում` փորձագետները խորհուրդ չեն տալիս դիմել կտրուկ քայլերի և սահմանափակումներ դնել սեռի բացահայտման կամ հղիության արհեստական ընդհատման ժամանակ: Նրանք առաջարկում են խթանել աղջիկների դերի բարձացումը և փորձել իրազեկվածության մակարդակի բարձրացման միջոցով խթանել աղջիկների ծնունդը:
