Իրանի առաջին փոխնախագահ Էսհակ Ջահանգիրին հայտարարել է, որ Թեհրանն իրեն իրավունք է վերապահում համանման պատասխան տալ ԱՄՆ-ի պատժամիջոցներին: Այդ մասին, ինչպես տեղեկացնում է «Արմենպրես»-ը, սեպտեմբերի 1-ին հաղորդել է ԻՌՆԱ գործակալությունը:

Պաշտոնյան դատապարտել է օգոստոսի 29-ին Վաշինգտոնի կողմից սահմանված նոր պատժամիջոցները և հայտարարել, որ դրանք հակասում են Ժնևի համաձայնագրին, որը նոյեմբերին կնքվել է Թեհրանի և համաշխարհային տերությունների միջև:

Նրա խոսքով՝ այդ քայլը հակասում է Իրանի միջուկային հիմնախնդրի լուծման գործընթացին, սակայն հավաստել է, որ Թեհրանը կշարունակի բանակցությունները միջազգային միջնորդների վեցյակի (Ռուսաստան, ԱՄՆ, Չինաստան, Մեծ Բրիտանիա, Ֆրանսիա և Գերմանիա) հետ:
