Թիարնա Մենսիեսը միշտ հպարտանում էր իր երկար ու առատ վարսերով։ Երբ այս 19-ամյա աղջիկը սովորականի պես պառկեց քնելու, նա պատկերացնել անգամ չէր կարող, որ առավոտյան վեր էր կենալու գրեթե ճաղատ վիճակով։

Նա շոկի մեջ, երբ արթանացավ ու տեսավ, որ մազերը փնջերով թափված էին բարձին։ Սիդնեյի այս բնակչուհին սարսափելի այրոցներ էր զգում գանգամաշկի շրջանում։ Դեպքը կրկնվեց մի քանի անգամ։ Պարզվեց, որ աղջիկը տառապում էր տրիխոտիլոմանիայով։ Սա մի խանգարում է, որի դեպքում մարդ սկսում է փետել սեփական մազերը։ Այս խանգարման պատճառ կարող են հանդիսանալ սթրեսներն ու դեպրեսիաները։

Հոգեբանս առաջարկեց ինձ շարֆ կապել գլխիս քնելուց առաջ կամ գլխարկ կրել, որպեսզի քնած ժամանակ չփետեմ մազերս։ Ես փորձեցի այդ տարբերակը, սակայն առավոտյան ես վեր էի կենում ու տեսնում, որ շարֆը կամ գլխարկը գետնին ընկած է, իսկ փետված մազերս փռված են բարձին։ Մի խոսքով, ոչ մի միջոց ինձ չէր օգնում։
