Russia PM: Karabakh conflict should be solved by diplomats, not militaries
ПолитикаYEREVAN. - The Karabakh conflict should be solved by diplomats and not militaries.
Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev told the aforementioned to journalists Thursday at the joint statement with his Armenian counterpart Hovik Abarhamyan in Yerevan.
“Of course, we couldn’t but discuss the situation round the Nagorno-Karabakh today. I discussed it with the PM, and in the evening I plan to also discuss it with the country’s president. We are extremely concerned about the situation,” Medvedev said.
He also expressed hope that the ceasefire will be observed: “And we hope that the political process in which there has been a lot of input, will resume, so that the diplomats and not militaries deal with its normalization, and so that people are not killed and the infrastructure isn’t destroyed.”
“Russia is ready to further play a mediation role and use its influence in the framework of corresponding procedures. There is no alternative to the mechanism that exists. Its powers were enshrined in the decisions of the UN Security Council and OSCE. I’d like to reiterate that the most important thing is to exclude flare of conflict at this hot stage, since this can have extremely tragic repercussions for the region. But the discussion of this issue will definitely continue,” he stated.
