Ցածրահասակ մարդկանց մոտ սրտի հիվանդությունների զարգացման հավանականությունը ավելի բարձր է, նշում են գիտնականները: Մինչեւ վերջերս նրանք չէին կարողանում բացատրել այս կապը, սակայն վերջին հետազոտությունները ցույց տվեցին, որ ամեն ինչի մեղավորը մեր գեներն են: Մոտ 180 գեն է պատասխանատու մեր հասակի համար եւ դրանցից ոմանք մարդուն ցածրահասակ են դարձնում, ինչպես նաեւ բարձրացնում անոթները խցանող խոլեստերինի մակարդակը:
