Համընդհանուր ճշմարտություն է, որ յուրաքանչյուր կին, անկախ տարիքից, պետք է ունենա մարգարիտների իր շարանը: Դարեր շարունակ մարգարիտը եղել է գեղեցկության և մաքրության խորհրդանիշ, իսկ այսօր այն համարվում է և դասական, և ժամանակակից զարդ: Մարգարտյա զարդեր պետք է լինեն բոլորիս զարդատուփերում, քանի որ դրանք կարելի է կրել ամենատարբեր առիթներով և զուգադրումներով:

Հնուց այն համարվում էր թալիսման (հուռութք), որն իր տիրոջը սեր էր բերում, պաշտպանում էր չար աչքից և բացասական ազդեցությունից, նույնիսկ' գողերից և ավազակներից: Սակայն այն կարող էր կորցնել թալիսմանի իր հատկությունը, եթե նվիրվեր ուրիշ մարդու: Ավելին, հայտնվելով անարժան մարդու ձեռքում, մարգարիտը կարող էր փոխել գույնը, անգամ' փշրվել: Դա տեղի կունենա նաև այն դեպքում, եթե մարգարտի տերը մահանա: Այդ իսկ պատճառով այս քարը երբեմն անվանում են նաև «կարոտի արցունքներ»: Հին գուշակներն ու աստղագետները պնդում էին, որ մարգարիտը հարմար է հատկապես նրանց, ովքեր ծնվել են Ձուկ համաստեղության ներքո: Ոմանց կարծիքով' մարգարիտը նպաստում է նաև պայծառատեսությանը:

Խորհուրդ չի տրվում մարգարտե զարդը այլ զարդերի հետ պահել: Այն պետք է պահել առանձին' փաթաթելով փափուկ կտորի մեջ: Մարգարիտները չպետք է մեկմեկու դիպչեն. քարերի արանքում կարելի է հանգույցներ անել: Ժամանակ առ ժամանակ խորհուրդ է տրվում մարգարիտը մի քանի ժամով դնել մաքուր ջրի մեջ, ապա չորացնել սառը տեղում: Թելը, որի վրա շարված է մարգարիտը, խորհուրդ է տրվում փոխել 2-3 տարին մեկ: Եթե մարգարիտը խամրել է, ապա այն պետք է լվանալ թույլ օճառաջրում' տրորելով փափուկ կտորով, իսկ հետո ցողել մաքուր ջրով: Քարը կարելի է տրորել նաև կարտոֆիլի ալյուրով. սա կանհետացնի խոնավությունը և կեղտը: Որպեսզի մարգարիտը «չծերանա», այն պետք է հաճախ կրել. մաշկի հետ շփումը «կենդանացնում է» մարգարիտը: Սակայն պետք է նկատի ունենալ, որ քրտինքը, ինչպես նաև օծանելիքի բաղադրության մեջ առկա որոշ նյութեր վնասում են մարգարտի արտաքին շերտը: Ուստի, նախքան մարգարտե զարդ կրելը, անպայման պետք է լոգանք ընդունել, իսկ օծանելիքն օգտագործել զարդը կրելուց մոտ 10 րոպե առաջ:
